FROM WASHINGTON, DC & RICHMOND

A weekend away.
A little closer to quiet.

Leave the city behind for a few days in Hot Springs, Virginia. Think mountain roads, a soak in the mineral springs, a good dinner, and time together in a house that feels like a home.

01 · THE JOURNEY

A proper change of scene.

Hot Springs sits in Bath County, in Virginia’s Allegheny Mountains. It suits a weekend when you want a change of pace: a small village, mountain scenery and a few memorable things to do, with enough room in the schedule to enjoy them.

From Washington, DC

Allow around four hours before traffic and stops. The Homestead’s published directions put the trip at roughly 210 miles, using I-66 and I-81 before the final stretch into the mountains.

From Richmond

Allow around three hours before traffic and stops. The resort estimates about 180 miles, heading west on I-64 and continuing toward Hot Springs.

These are the resort’s approximate driving estimates to nearby The Homestead, not live journey times to the house. Check your route before leaving and give Friday traffic some breathing room. See Omni’s directions

02 · A LITTLE STRUCTURE

Three days. Room to breathe.

FRIDAY

Arrive, unpack, exhale.

Make the first evening easy. Bring something simple for dinner and breakfast, unpack properly, and settle into the living room. If you arrive with time to spare, take a stroll into the village before choosing somewhere for dinner.

Keep an ambitious reservation off your arrival night. A mountain weekend starts better when the journey can take the time it takes.

SATURDAY

Take the waters. Then take your time.

Start with breakfast at the house, then drive to Warm Springs for a reserved soak at the historic Warm Springs Pools. This is a separate outing from The Homestead’s spa, and a lovely focus for the day. Reserve a soak

Leave the afternoon open for browsing, a walk, or a return to the sunroom with a book. For a dinner worth planning around, look at the Waterwheel Restaurant in Warm Springs, set in an old gristmill. Check its opening days and reserve before your trip. Explore the Waterwheel

SUNDAY

One more slow morning.

Have coffee together and keep the morning light. If your checkout time and the journey home allow, fit in a village wander or a final lunch before setting off. Check the times on your Airbnb reservation before making Sunday plans.

A longer weekend? Add a day for golf or a spa appointment, rather than squeezing everything into Saturday.

03 · PICK YOUR KIND OF WEEKEND

A little more you.

For the golfers

Build a day around The Cascades or the Old Course. Secure your tee time first, then let everything else fit around it.

For a spa escape

Swap the Saturday outing for a treatment at The Spa at The Omni Homestead, or give the spa and the pools a day each.

04 · STAY TOGETHER

A home between the outings.

For a family or a group of friends, Park Lane gives you somewhere to gather between outings: a fully equipped kitchen, a dining table, comfortable living spaces and two sunrooms. The village and The Omni Homestead are around a ten-minute walk away.

A restored 1920s home with three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and space for up to seven guests. The beds are a king, a queen, and a twin-over-full bunk with a twin trundle; check the full layout and current house details on Airbnb.

05 · THE PRACTICAL BITS

Plan the essentials. Leave the rest.

  • Reserve your main outing. Check pool sessions, spa appointments or tee times before committing to a detailed itinerary.
  • Bring a car. The village is walkable from the house, but Warm Springs Pools and trips around Bath County need transport.
  • Pack layers. Make space for a rain jacket and comfortable shoes as well as whatever your main activity needs.
  • Choose dinner ahead. Opening days vary. Browse Bath County’s dining options
